Obituary of Helen G. Marsh
Helen G. Marsh passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at The Atrium at The Village at Penn State lovingly surrounded by family. Born April 19, 1920 in Buffalo, NY, she grew up with her older sister, Dorothy, living in Chicago, IL, Ithaca, NY, and Bernardsville, NJ, where her family settled during the depression. Following WWII, she married her school mate and WWII veteran, Raymond C. Marsh, Jr. She enjoyed a career as a chief telephone operator for the NJ Bell Telephone Company in Peapack, NJ.
Helen raised her family in Mendham, NJ, later retiring with her husband to Kennebunkport, ME in 1984, where she became enamored with the beauty of the Maine coast and was surrounded by the warm friendship of many dear friends. She moved to State College in 2005 to be nearer to her children and grandchildren, which delighted her family.
Helen devoted herself to raising her family, which was her pride and joy. She loved life—particularly nature, herb and flower gardening, cooking, decorating, and entertaining—and generously shared that love with family and friends alike. She is remembered by many as fun-loving, warm and caring.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ray in 1994, and her sister, Dorothy York of Bernardsville, NJ, in 2007.
Helen is survived by her three children, Wendy M. Huffard and Raymond C. Marsh, III both of State College, PA and Pam M. McDonald of Middletown, MD, and their respective spouses, Robert Huffard, Peggy Marsh, Ed McDonald, and five grandchildren—Scott, Sarah and Andrew Huffard; and RJ and Clare Marsh.
Her family acknowledges and expresses deep gratitude for the loving and attentive care Helen received from The Atrium staff while she was a resident there.
A memorial service will be held at The Atrium at The Village at Penn State, 160 Lion's Hill Road, State College, on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 3 p.m. Interment will be private.
Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College. Online condolences and signing of the guest book may be entered at www.kochfuneralhome.com .
