Obituary of George J. Harmonosky
George J. Harmonosky, 92, of State College, died Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, PA.
Born April 24, 1925, in Tresckow, PA, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Gedor Harmonosky. On May 31, 1958, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Catasauqua, PA he married Catherine A. Suppan and settled in Whitehall, PA. He was a loving husband and wonderful father.
He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Harmonosky Tillotson and her husband, Rick, of State College; three grandchildren, Elaine Tillotson and her fiancé, Jeremiah Gratz, of Columbus, IN, Meredith Tillotson, who is currently studying at Ohio State, and Scott Tillotson, who is currently studying at Virginia Tech.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine S. Harmonosky on September 27, 2004; four brothers, John, Andrew, Joseph, and Michael; and five sisters, Ann, Agnes, Mary, Margaret, and Helen.
He graduated from West Hazleton High School in 1943. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he received his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Scranton.
George began his career as an insurance salesman. From the early 1960s until his retirement in 1989, George worked as a route salesman for Mary MacIntosh Laundry Service in Allentown, PA. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. He relocated from Whitehall to State College, PA in 2006.
George was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, State College, PA and was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Catasauqua. He loved attending the sporting and music events of his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching old movies and sports on television.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Salvation Army State College, 2603 East College Avenue, Suite G, State College, PA 16801.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, with Fr. Antony Sudherson officiating.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Catasauqua.
