Obituary of H. Richard McCracken

H. Richard McCracken, 90, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011, in State College, Pa. Born August 1, 1921, in Zanesville, Ohio, he was a son of the late Howard Wilmer McCracken and Doris Smith McCracken. On Sept. 13, 1947, he married Margaret Ann Zoppel, who died August 15, 2005.He was also preceded in death by his daughter Susan Bridge on Nov. 18, 2010. He is survived by three children, Janet E. McCracken and her husband, Jeffrey Hayes, of State College, Nancy Ruffing and her husband, Ron, of Tiffin, Ohio and Rick McCracken and his wife, Hydeh Ghaffari, of Oakland Calif.; a son-in-law, Tom Bridge, of Atlanta, Ga., 12 grandchildren, Craig and Laura Bridge, Katie Ruffing, Christina Sweeting, Emily Ruffing, Adam Bridge, Megan Ruffing, Reika and Sheila McCracken, and Kyle, Casey and Joseph McCracken; and five great-grandchildren. H. Richard McCracken received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ohio State University in 1943. After serving in the army in WWII, he received his law degree from Ohio State University in 1947. He began his law career with a private practice in Columbus, Ohio. In 1960, Richard was appointed by the Governor to serve as Judge to the Franklin County Municipal Court in Columbus, Ohio. Richard completed his legal career as a Master Commissioner to the Supreme Court of Ohio. Richard was a loyal and loving husband, father, and grandfather and leaves a legacy of love in those he leaves behind. Services are private, at the convenience of the family.
