Obituary of Harold Singer
Harold ("Butsey") Singer, 94, of State College, PA, died Friday, February 23, 2018, at his home.
Born October 15, 1923, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Morris and Rose Levy Singer. On March 16, 1947 he married Doris "Chickie" Mazer.
Harold joined the United States Marine Corps in February 1943, served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre from November 1944 through January 1946, participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima, and was honorably discharged in February 1946.
After the war he entered the advertising business at the Joseph Katz Company in Baltimore, MD until he took advantage of an opportunity to move to New York to further his career, eventually working at Wells, Rich and Greene in the golden era of print advertising. Upon retirement he and Chickie moved to State College, PA.
He was a member of the Sight-Loss Support Group of Central PA. He enjoyed his membership at Victory Sports and Fitness where he could be found on the rowing machine 6 days a week and lunch at Honey Baked Ham where he enjoyed spirited conversation on a wide variety of topics.
He was a dapper gentleman. He will be missed and remembered by family and friends whose many lives he touched.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Richard A. Singer and his wife, Jeane V. Singer, of State College, PA, and Judy L. Singer and her husband, Robert H. Ainslie, of Ithaca, NY, grandsons Scott A. Singer and Robert L. Ainslie, and his niece Nancy Levine and nephew Mark Dubin, of Baltimore, MD. He is preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Dubin.
