Mona L. Butler, 83, of Boalsburg, passed peacefully on Sunday, March 11, 2018 after a short illness.
Born January 20, 1935, in LeContes Mills, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Irma Cole Smith. On April 10, 1954 Mona married Hayden Ray Butler, who preceded her in death on August 29, 2017.
Mona is survived by her daughter, Debra A. Butler and husband, Stephen G. Grimes, of Los Altos Hills, CA; son, Joseph Ray Butler and wife, Eileen F., of Londonderry, NH; four grandchildren, Cody H. and Jesse D. Grimes, Carly V. and Jeremy R. Butler; brother, Leslie "Bud" Smith of Clearfield; and two dogs, Jade and Panda Butler of Boalsburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mona was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald Smith, Ronald Smith, Homer Smith and Jacob Smith; and two sisters, Ursula Johnson and Leola Plubell.
Mona graduated from Clearfield High School in 1953. She worked as a library aide for the State College Area School District from 1971 until her retirement in 1997. Mona loved working with the students, and she was very passionate about integrating computer technology into their educational experience. The friendships she made through her years at State High filled her life with adventure, humor, and love.
Mona was very involved with her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, and dearly loved her Shih Tzu dogs. She was an active member of the community, volunteering for State College Area Meals on Wheels, participating in Masonic activities with Hayden, and working to support local elections and voter registration.
A private service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to State College Area Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1235, State College, PA 16804, in memory of Mona L. Butler.
