Obituary of Nancy W. Taylor

Nancy Lou Walters Taylor, 85, of State College, died on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Nancy was born on August 19, 1932 in Brownsville, PA, the daughter of the late Theophilus “TD” and Hazel Weaver Walters.

Nancy graduated from Brownsville Senior High School and then from Washington Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, PA, receiving her R.N. At age 50, she enrolled at The Pennsylvania State University, graduating with her B.S. in Nursing.

On August 25, 1956, in Uniontown, PA, she married John Wilson Taylor who predeceased her in death in June of 1996.

Surviving are three children, Douglas Taylor (Debra), of Wexford, PA, Barbara Taylor of State College, and Anne Taylor (Richard Wymelenberg), of Potomac, MD; five grandchildren, Renee Sapp (Joseph), Laura Taylor (Jessica Lee), Cara Jaeger (William), Lisa  Kobialka (Jason), and Justin Taylor (Anyelika); five great-grandchildren, Allison, Sarah, Josie, Evan Sapp and Henry Taylor Lee; and brother, Dan D. Walters (Dolores) of North Carolina.

In addition to her husband, Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Weaver Walters, who was lost at sea during World War II.

She was a member of St Paul’s United Methodist Church, State College, along with belonging to Circle 3 and a Bible study group. Nancy was a past matron and 50 year member of State College Chapter #388 of the Order of Eastern Star and belonged to the State College Graduate Nurses Club. Upon retirement from a local dermatology office, she began to volunteer her nursing skills at Centre Volunteers in Medicine.

Nancy enjoyed spending time with her family, working in her yard and flower beds, knitting, reading, and was an avid Penn State fan. She always enjoyed summer vacations with family at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 5-8p.m. at the Koch Funeral home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. An Order of the Eastern Star service will begin at 8p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

The funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 250 E College Ave, State College. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at church, from 10-11a.m.

Burial with be in Pine Hall Cemetery, State College.
