Obituary of Betty J. Frost

Betty Jane Frost went to be with God on Wednesday, May 16 surrounded by those who loved her. She was born September 18, 1921, so mathematically speaking, she was 97 went she went to see her Maker!

Betty had wonderful parents, Anna Kamm and Albert Krueger, who immigrated from Germany in the early 1900's and settled in Chicago, Illinois. Betty and her younger brother Paul were first generation Americans!! They are welcoming her now in heaven.

Betty married Richard Franklin Frost during World War II and they had three children; Rick, Jr., Sharon Renee', and Jeanette Louise. When Dick decided to move on, Betty raised those kiddos by herself when she was only 34 years old. She got (2) through college and the other became a successful business woman. Jeanette will be glad to see her Mamacita again.

Betty touched people's lives in her selfless, kind, and always caring ways. She always wanted to be of "help and service". Help and serve she did.

At First Bethel Methodist Church, where she was a member for over (40) years, she was a Sunday school teacher, Education secretary and Education Director and 'served' on many committees. She played violin for services as well as donated her (and our) time to set up, serve, and clean up at church functions.

Speaking of violin, Betty was a consummate violinist. Before she married, she played in the Chicago Orchestra as first violinist, but quit when she discovered that a duty was to perform solos. Betty did not like to be in the spot light, but liked to work behind the scenes and do her share.

Betty was a selfless parent and gave her children a LOT of room to make mistakes and go where they needed to go. All of us became very independent thinkers and personally strong because of her guidance and love. As a single, working parent, she gave us security, her wisdom (some of it did rub off on us!), comfort, the ability to think and act independently and unconditional love. We were so blessed to have such a strong, courageous and giving role model.

When her children were in middle school, Betty flew her mother, Anna, from Chicago to live with us. She cared for her mother for (20) years. Grandma went to be with God when she was (mathematically speaking) 93 years old.

Betty's grandchildren Sean, Brianna, Elyse and Michael loved their "Grams" and appreciate the impact she had on their lives. Betty was a 'traveling Grandmother', as she was so fond of saying. She was able to live and nurture them as they were growing up when she retired from the Bethel Park School District after (33) years of 'service' at the age of 72. Because of her efficiency there, her workload had to be filled by (3) people when she retired!!!

As Betty became older, she needed help at home while Sharon and Tom (her son-in-law) were at work. We were so lucky to have our 'Joni' to care for her the last five years. When Joni moved to be with her family, our kind Judy took her place. They loved being with their 'Ms. Betty' because she was so pleasant and every day they were with her, Mom never failed to compliment them on how kind and beautiful their spirits were or as she often said, 'they were beautiful outside AND inside as well'. So was she.

Betty's last 'service' to others was to make sure a check was sent to First Bethel United Methodist Church in the amount of $25. She made that request on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. She never stopped giving to others.

Betty Jane (Mee Frau, Fernando, Mamacita, Grams, Mom, Aunt Betty, Ms. Betty) will be so missed by Rick, Sharon, Sean, Brianna, Elyse, Michael, her sons-in-law, Tom and Elie, her nephews Kurt and Max and niece Marianne and all those lives she touched with her positive, kind, and caring countenance. Her touch upon them will thankfully remain.

Visitation will be from 10 until 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. A celebration of life will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Dean Lindsey officiating.
