Obituary of James Alfred Delphus
James Alfred Delphus, 89, of State College, died Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Greenhills Village in State College after his second battle with cancer.
Born May 22, 1929 in Bridgeville, he was the son of the late Matthew and Mary Frances Knez Delphus. He married Mary Walters on April 15, 1961, in Bridgeville, who survives at home.
Jim's first love was always his family. In addition to his wife of 57 years, He is survived by three children J. Brian Delphus and his wife, Lynn of Gambrills, MD, Doreen Perks of State College, and Denise Gabany and her fiancé Robert Davis of Mercer; a brother, Robert Delphus and his wife Teresa of Bridgeville; six grandchildren, Camden and Karissa Delphus, Garrett and Ryan Perks, and Maddison and Colton Gabany. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bob Perks.
Jim was a 1947 graduate of Bridgeville High School and is a veteran of the Korean War.
He retired as a Sales Manager from Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel, later known as Cytemp of Pittsburgh, after forty years of service.
Jim attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church locally and was a member of St. Agatha's Catholic Church, later known as Holy Child Parish in Bridgeville.
Jim loved sports, especially his Pittsburgh teams. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing and thanks to his family had the opportunity to spend his 80th birthday with well-known local Fly Fisherman, Joe Humphries.
Visitation will be 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College. A prayer service will immediately follow at 4 p.m., at the funeral home with Pastor David Hersh officiating. Another visitation will be held from 3 until 5 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m., on Monday, June 18, 2018 at Warchol Funeral Home, 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville.
Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Holy Child Parish, 212 Station Street, Bridgeville.
Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road
Bridgeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund, P.O. Box 313 State College, PA 16804.
