Obituary of Anthony Joseph Pello

Anthony Joseph Pello, 92, formerly of Warriors Mark, died Sunday, August 26, 2018 in State College, PA. Born March 28, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Anthony Joseph and Frances DeLuca Pello. On July 26, 1954, he married Camilla Georgette Kraus, who survives. Also surviving are six children, Richard Anthony Pello of San Diego, CA, Joseph Charles Pello of Baja California Peninsula, Janet Camille Nelson and her husband, Vincent, of State College, Anthony Joseph Pello and his wife, Marjorie, of Harleysville, Frank Stephen Pello of Tyrone, Julie Ann Degliomini and her husband, Anthony, of Pennsylvania Furnace; a sister, Rose Ulmer of Longwood, FL; nine beautiful grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings: Brothers Philip Pello, Donald Pello, John Pellow, and Thomas Pello and one sister, Frances Szafran. Anthony attended The Murrell Dobbins Career and Technical Education High School but left high school before graduating to acquire a job to help out with the family finances. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy as Seaman First Class during WWII and was a crew member of the USS Wyffels and USS Thomas E. Fraser which cruised the Atlantic Ocean against Germany. His main duties were stationed with gun crew during combat activities, maintenance of exterior of ship, anchoring and helmsman. After the military, he attended aircraft engine mechanic school and graduated with honors. At the time he graduated, jobs were scarce in the aircraft industry, but the automobile industry was booming. He applied his mechanical ability and the rest is history! In his younger years he enjoyed fishing with his brother Donald, vacationing with family at the beach and gardening. He raised six children in Philadelphia and had many various jobs and job titles along the way. One of the most interesting jobs that he held was working at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as a crew member working on the battleship USS New Jersey. He was a mechanic, a welder, a rigger, a millwright and a machinist; he worked at Mechanic Uniform Company (Coyne Laundry) he was responsible for the operation and maintenance of a fleet of 27 trucks and was also the maintenance repairman for the entire facility, Philco Corporation (TV repair), Rhoads Industries (industrial fabrication & maintenance), Rental Tools (maintenance of equipment), Crown Cork & Seal (maintenance/repair on assembly line of canning/bottling company) and Nabisco (a favorite of his kids). Working was his hobby. When he wasn't working (and even on his lunch hour) he did side jobs; he was fixing, tinkering or rebuilding something for someone … either after work at work, or at home for a neighbor (cars, TV's, vacuum cleaners, washing machines). The quote "Tony will fix it!" followed him everywhere. He eventually retired at the age of 65 from ThyssenKrupp Budd Company as a millwright in 1991. Anthony and Camilla retired to Warriors Mark, PA in 1993 where they enjoyed spending time with their family, sunny afternoons with their dog Elsa at Reservoir Park in Tyrone, PA and family picnics at Whipple Dam State Park.
