Obituary of Jean Harris Thorsell
Jean Harris Thorsell, "Sonny," 93, of Charles Town, WV passed from this life on Thursday, September 27, 2018 peacefully at home.
Born September 23, 1925 in State College, PA, he was the son of the late Jean August and Margaret Thorsell.
Jean was a US Navy veteran, serving in World War II.
He was a crane and heavy equipment operator most of his life following his military career until retirement.
Jean will always be remembered for his love of life and family and loved spending time with his beloved friend, Betty. He spent most of his time outdoors – enjoying nature, zipping around on the zero-turn or tinkering with items in the garage. He could always be found with his faithful feline companion, Stormy and his great-grand dogs, Abbey, Cooper and Auggie.
He is survived by a son, Jean "Eric" Thorsell and his wife, Deana, of Charles Town; their children, Jennifer Rice and her husband, Jim, Stacey Alcantara and her husband, Jorge, and Katlin Thorsell and her boyfriend, Joe. Jean also had five great grandchildren, Chloey, Hudson and Ella Rice and Noah and Anna Alcantara which he adored.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Thorsell.
The family will receive friends at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home with Pastor John Bethard officiating.
Interment will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 4:00 pm at Pine Hall Cemetery following a visitation from 1-3 pm at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a local animal shelter or the Fisher House Foundation – 12300 Twinbrook Pkwy, Suite 410 Rockville, MD 20852.
