Obituary of Betty Jane Hughes
Betty J. Hughes, 94, of Bethel Park, formerly of State College, died Monday, October 1, 2018, at Mt. Lebanon Family Hospice Center.
Born March 29, 1924, in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth Frances Emigh Muir. On July 15, 1946 she married Robert “Bob” E. Hughes, who preceded her in death on September 23, 1998.
Betty is survived by three daughters. Nancy Futrick and her husband Mike of Bethel Park, with whom Betty made her home for the past 4 years, Judi Gibbons and her partner Larry Selfe of Tampa Fl., and Debby Mayes and her husband Ron of State College. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Betty’s son Bobby, her “pride and joy”, preceded her in death May 14, 2014. Betty was also preceded in death by her sister Pyretta Dumbleton and her brothers Harold, John and Richard Muir
Betty was a 1941 graduate of Philipsburg High School.
Betty was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church in State College. While living in State College, Betty enjoyed having breakfast with her good friend Sandy at Eat N Park and the Waffle Shop, shopping at the Nittany Mall and a lively game of Rummikub. She was an avid Penn State, Steelers and Atlanta Braves fan. Betty and Bob wintered at their home in Leesburg, Florida until his death.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College.
Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Celebrant Jackie Hook officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Hall Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association at 135 Parkinson Avenue
