Obituary of Laura J. Bartell

Laura J Bartell Winkelbauer, age 44, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov 15, 2018, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after a long battle with illnesses. She was born Sep 5, 1974, in State College. She was a 1992 graduate of State College High School and furthered her education at Penn State, University of Phoenix and had been working on her dissertation for her Doctorate from Grand Canyon University. She married 2nd Lt Matthew D Winkelbauer, USMC, in State College on Jun 1, 1996. She worked in a variety of positions with Marine Corps Family Team Building as Matt drug her and the family through assignments in Okinawa, Japan; Norfolk, VA; Camp Lejeune, Quantico, VA and Camp Pendleton, CA. Laura lived life to the fullest, enjoying going on the many adventures with her family getting to go to both Disney Land and Disney World and even climbed Mt Fuji in Japan and Ayers Rock in Australia. Laura had an uncanny ability to connect with everyone she met, providing inspiration to all. She is survived by her husband, Major Matthew D Winkelbauer, USMC (ret.); three daughters, Jessica, Sarah and Rachel; mother, Theresa McElwain; father and step-mother Rod and Kathy Bartell; brothers, Jason and Nathan Bartell; and many uncles, aunts and cousins. Family and friends are invited to join the celebration of life for Laura Bartell Winkelbauer on Sunday, December 9, 2018, 3:00 pm, at Calvary Harvest Fields, 150 Harvest Fields Drive, Boalsburg, PA 16827. The service will be followed by a reception at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to: Out of the Cold. This is a joint effort of churches in the State College area to provide overnight shelter and meals to homeless in the Centre Region from Oct-May each year.
