Obituary of Alberta Mills Nelson

Alberta "Bert" Mills Nelson, 90, State College, Pa. December 4, 2018 at the Atrium at The Village at Penn State. Born June 13, 1928 in Upper Darby, Pa. she was the daughter of Col. Frederick H. Mills and Lillian Small Mills. She married G. Kenneth Nelson, on August 14, 1954, who preceded her in death. She is survived by two children, Fred Nelson (Wanda) of Fayetteville, N.Y., Julie Nelson of Lemont, Pa.; two grandchildren, Wendy Diamante (Brian) of Lakewood, Colo., Kristina Nelson, of Fayetteville, N.Y.; and a great-granddaughter, Gemma Diamante. Bert was a graduate of Upper Darby High School, received B.S. from Beaver College, and M.S. from Wellesley College. She was a swimming and dance instructor at Penn State. Bert had many interests, her first love was dance, she performed and choreographed many dance recitals throughout her college and teaching career. She also played lacrosse and field hockey at the collegiate level. She enjoyed swimming, tennis, cross country skiing and aerobic dancing. She also taught exercise classes for women in the community and was an active member and Lay Reader at St. Andrews. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, and president of the Daughters of the American Colonists. Funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 8th at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jeffrey Packard officiating. Burial will be in Graysville cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church or Center County PAW's. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
