iNNALILLAHI WA INNA ILAIYHI RAJEOON (To Him shall we all return). May Allah bless his soul with His mercy, accept his good deeds, give him best place in paradise and give patience and perseverance to his family to bear this colossal loss. Jawaid left us a little early, I will always remember him as a good friend, room mate and a class mate at school of Architecture, METU, Ankara. We had some great times together. He loved qima with bell pepper, and when it was my turn to cook, he always told me to keep cooking the qima (ground beef) until it was very dark, dry and crunchy....only then I could add the bell pepper in the process!!
He always had a big laugh when any of us slipped on the slippery, icy slopes of Ankara hills while hurrying to catch our school bus. One day he slipped... and we all had a big laugh.
So long Jawaid!!

Talat and sons: My thoughts are with you today as you lay Jawaid to rest and gather with friends to celebrate his life. I believe Jawaid exhibited some of life's finest virtues--kindness, patience, fairness, and sincerity. These came across in every single interaction I had with him over the years in the College of Arts and Architecture. He will be greatly missed.

We are so sorry about Jawaid. I know it was important to him to complete his project in Pakistan so I’m glad he was able to do that. If we can help in any way, remember we are right around the corner. My sincere condolences to Shuja and Asad.

To the Jawaid Haider family:
I'm sorry that I will not be able to attend the service and celebration of Jawaid tomorrow. I would like to share my thoughts about Jawaid with you.
On the tennis courts as a partner or opponent Jawaid was so much fun to play with and always a first class gentleman.
As a faculty colleague I was impressed with his scholarly approach and his love of teaching our architecture students. His students admired Jawaid for his genuine concern for them and his outstanding guidance. He was always ready to take on difficult responsibilities that greatly improved the department.
After my retirement from the university on occasion we would meet and i would enjoy hearing his latest scholarly exploits in Australia, Pakistan and Penn State.
He had a great love of his family and real pride in his sons. I will deeply miss Jawaid.

I’m deeply saddened with the demise of Jawaid Haidar. He was my class mate in our university years at METU, back in the 1970s. Years later we met as colleagues—in Istanbul, in Ankara and in Islamabad for the last time… We have lost a loyal friend, an excellent academic and a very kind soul. Condolences to all who have known him... Aydan (Keskin) Balamir, Arch’74

Dear Talat, Shuja and Asad,
I am so sorry for your loss- my sincere condolences to you all. Jawaid meant so much to me. He was one of the most trustworthy, genuinely kind and honest gentlemen I have ever known, not to mention a wonderful teacher. We had a coffee together every morning for many years. I have an espresso machine in my office and always knew to prepare one for him too. I simply knocked on the wall to let him know it was time to come over. It was such a nice morning ritual, with many engaging conversations, often about political and social injustices in the world.
Whenever I had a problem or frustration, Jawaid could innately sense it, and always offered great and thoughtful advice. Of course, it goes without saying that Jawaid was a very impressive athlete. I only played tennis with him once, and he wiped the floor, or should I say the court with me, and yet it was clear he wasn't giving it his all, saving me from complete humiliation! Simply put, Jawaid was a great guy, a good friend and colleague. I will miss him terribly. My thoughts are with all of you.
Sincerely, Jamie (Cooper)
