Dear Mrs. Hayya,
I write to express my deep condolences for your loss. I have so many wonderful memories of Dr. Hayya. I remember his warm smile and his brilliant mind. I also remember his and your generous hospitality—Thanksgivings celebrated at your home and the gift you brought my family when my daughter was born. For students like myself who came from abroad to study in a new country, his care and guidance was vital. He was like an academic father for me. May he rest in peace. I pray for God’s comfort and peace for you and your family in this time.
Sincerely,
Seung-Lae Kim

Jack was a wonderful teacher, mentor and friend. I took his course in forecasting and he was a member of my dissertation committee. He was always prepared for class, had high expectations of his students, was very supportive, and had a great sense of humor. He helped me think through the design of my dissertation and spent countless hours proofreading and providing feedback. I will forever be grateful for his help and friendship.

Professor Hayya was such a generous person. He gave me so much support during my Ph.D., sometimes by just listening to my problems, other times by editing my articles. I remember the dinners at his house where I was always feeling part of the family. My deepest condolences to Susan. My prayers for both of you. May Jack rest in peace.
