I am sorry for the loss of this great scholar and woman, also for not having had the chance to meet her. As a graduate of Penn State and a professor, I know that she had much work to do there and influenced many lives. May she Rest In Peace and the knowledge that she will he missed andbthat she touched so many.

I am truly sorry and saddened by the passing of my very good friend and colleague, Lovalerie. I have very fond memories of her kindness and hospitality that she showed at home and on campus. She will truly be missed. She always had a helping hand and was always available to provide guidance and support no matter how big or small the issue was.

So very saddened to hear about the passing of Val. Val was a wonderful neighbor and we have many fond memories of her, from her kind smile to her genuine concern for others. Val was very accomplished in her professional career but to have raised a daughter as wonderful as Erin is a real testament to the special mother that she was. The neighborhood won't be the same without Val. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Val was a sweet, fierce, determined, brilliant colleague. I feel so fortunate that we became friends -- and had some lovely adventures together. She treasured her children beyond measure. I will miss her.

Valerie was a wonderful colleague for us at the University of Massachusetts--warm and brilliant, friendly and a wonderful member of the team. I was sorry to see her leave us for State College but also knew it was the right thing for her. I missed her when she left us and am all the more sorrowful now to hear of her untimely death. Her spirit will always be with us.

I am stunned and deeply saddened by Lovalerie's death. I was the department chair who hired her at UMassBoston in 1999 and I remained a great admirer of her, both for the work she did and the person she was. After Lovalerie left for Penn State she came back to Boston for a visit and my wife and I had the joy of hosting a small backyard party for her and her sister Ernestine (along with one of Val's favorite students, Bettie Oliver) one summer's day. I send warmest thoughts to Val's family and friends at this time of terrible loss.
