Obituary of Naomi V. McCamley
Naomi “Noni” Pearl Vroman McCamley, 91, of State College, passed peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2019. Born October 17, 1927, in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Delbert H. and Naomi Pearl Biddle Vroman.
Naomi graduated from the Port Matilda High School in 1945, and married the love of her life, William J. McCamley, Sr. on October 30, 1946. After 61 years of devoted marriage, William preceeded her in death on November 7, 2007. She was also preceeded in death by siblings, Betty Fisher, Mildred Reese and Sarah Ferlanie.
“Noni” was a Bookkeeper at The Autoport Motel & Restaurant for 8 years, then began work at the Sandwich Shop in the basement of Old Main on Penn State’s Main Campus. She retired in 1988, as the Administrative Assistant to the Department Head of Accounting and MIS at Penn State. She was an avid fan of all things Penn State, from football to the Blue Band to concerts and shows.
Her time and passion were devoted to family, faith and friends. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church for over 60 years and taught Catechism there for 13 of years. Her interest in Genealogy traced her Vrooman family history back to ancestors landing here in New Amsterdam in 1634. That history led her to join the Daughter’s of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Daughters of the American Colonists (DAC) where she rose to State Regent. She was also actively involved in CAR and CAC organizations..
Naomi is survived by her four children: William J. Jr and his wife Linda, of State College, Steve and his wife Sherry. of Cincinnatti, OH, Charlotte Chamberlin and her husband Don, of Spring Mills and Joel and his wife Margaret, of State College; Nine grandchildren, Patrick, Drew, Erin, Brady and Joel McCamley, Jr, Brittany LeCouvre, Adam Ballenger, Eric and Frank Bunge and three great grandchildren, Zachary and Link McCamley and Eloise LeCouvre; and three siblings, Nancy Witmer of State College, Judith McClure of Bellefonte and Delbert C. Vroman of Mechanicsburg.
Family and friends will be received at Koch Funeral Home in State College on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, State College on Saturday 2, 2019 at 10:30 AM. Naomi will be laid to rest at Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
