Professor Corneal changed my life. I was super depressed in college, skirting by without going to classes and avoiding everything productive. One day, after a mandatory class weeks into the semester, she saw me and made me stay after class to talk, because she didn’t recognize me (I hadn’t been to a single class in five weeks). She proceeded to confront me about my non-attendance and told me what I was doing was unacceptable. I admitted that I thought I was struggling mentally, and we made a deal for the rest of the semester that I wouldn’t miss a single class thereafter. I completed her class with a B, ended up bringing my GPA up drastically, and last year I finished my MSW with high honors. I now work as a therapist to teenagers at a residential program, and completely attribute my turn around to Professor Corneal. She was fantastic, and engaging, and kind, and I am saddened by the news of her passing. Her family and loved ones are in my thoughts.
