Obituary of John Harlow

John R. "Jack" Harlow 86 a resident of State College died Sunday, October 9, 2011 at his residence. Born June 5, 1925 in Altoona the son of the late Joseph P. and Eliza Carl Harlow. On June 2, 1951 he married the former Jean A Donnelly who survives in State College. Jack is survived by four children, Colleen A. Harlow of State College, John R. Harlow Jr. of Centre Hall, Thomas R. Harlow and his wife Diane of Elysburg and Matthew R. Harlow and his wife Bernadeen of Port Matilda, Seven grandchildren, Daniel Naperkoski, Lisa Naperkoski , Jessica Harlow, Jonathan Harlow, Kathryn Harlow, Colin Harlow and Keri Harlow and two great grandchildren Christopher and Olivia. Also surviving is a brother Joseph Harlow of South Bend, IN. He was predeceased by a sister Mary Louise Cole and a brother William P. Harlow. Jack was a loving husband and father and was dedicated to his family. He retired from Bell Telephone Co. in 1983 after 35 years of service and was a Past President and life member of the Seven Mountains Telephone Pioneers, a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. A member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was an Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the NRA, volunteered at Mount Nittany Medical Centre and Special Olympics. He was an avid bird watcher and outdoor enthusiast. Friends will be received at the Koch Funeral Home , 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, PA on Tuesday, October 11, 2001 from 6 until 8 pm. Mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 10:30 AM with Monsignor David Lockard officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Altoona, PA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be given to Our Lady of Victory Catholic School, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, PA 16801 Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
