I felt compelled to leave a little note. I only learned of Dr. Brenchley's passing now, while I was updating my resume. I worked as a student assistant in her laboratory before I graduated from Penn State in 2006. Jean was an incredible person who gave me an opportunity to learn in an environment with some wonderfully brilliant people such as Jen and Vanya. Because of that experience, it helped as a launch point to a successful career in the vaccine industry. Jean actually kept me on as an assistant after I had graduated from Penn State to gain a little more experience before I was able to find a job within industry. My condolences to the family and close friends of Jean.

Jean was a role model to her students. She is was one of the reasons Why I got my PhD and continued a gratifying career. When I knocked on her office door as a sophomore at PSU, she gave me a job cleaning dishes in her lab. Later she offered me small projects to help out. She was always very patient, even when I made a mistake and made me feel capable and valued. Thanks to her letter of recommendation, I was accepted to grad school. She always wore a warm smile. My condolences to the family.

Jean was a loved classmate from the Class of ‘62 at Canton High School. She was our Salutatorian. As you can see from her accomplishments in life she was a brilliant woman who had passions for microbiology. Penn State University and many other institutions valued her knowledge. She will be missed by many of her family and friends in her small community where it all began. Rest in Peace my friend, Rest In Peace.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Jean's passing. Jean was instrumental in bringing me to Penn State and continued to be a valued colleague that I greatly appreciated. Her many accomplishments were a standard that I and the department looked up to. I recall that Jean always had very insightful questions and comments at departmental seminars that meant to encourage the speaker. Although her council and contributions are worthy of a full lifetime and more, her passing was much too early. My sincere condolences to her family.

Jean was my favorite fly fishing partner. She would always increase the size of the fish I caught by at least 5 inches. Al and I will be missing you so much on those little trout streams. We will take you with us in spirit.
