I will remember Henry as a very friendly, smart, dedicated and happy scientist. He was such an energetic and motivated person! I am happy I got to know him in 2015, where I visited him for 3 months as part of my PhD. He will remain in my thoughts!

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Henry's passing. I considered him a good friend that I worked with on the Penn State Office of Physical Plant Wastewater Distribution Committee before my retirement. He helped us understand the movement of water through the upper soils on the Living Filter through his research. I can remember his numerous presentations on the subject where he identified himself as "Dr. Dirt" bringing a bit of humor to a very complex system. I consider working with him an honor.

I was stunned to hear about Henry’s passing when traveling this week. I have known him for so long, but was not aware of his recent suffering. Henry was a great colleague and friend, a leader in his field, and because of his passion for soil hydrology, he influenced many students and colleagues, no doubt. I am so saddened by this devastating news. Henry and I graduated from the same college in Fujian, China and we have been friends since. Only three weeks ago, we exchanged greeting messages during Chinese mid autumn festival. I was totally unaware that he was battling illness. I fondly remember that his family and my family enjoyed watching cycling event together in the London Olympics in 2012, and many other occasions when we talked about science, families and friendship. I will remember Henry as an always smiling, enthusiastic, scientifically brilliant, and very kind person. May him rest in peace.

I was shocked and sadden to hear of Henry's passing. He was my MS adviser who never settled for "good enough", and pushed me to be a better scientist, and for that I will always be grateful. He was fully dedicated to bettering our understanding of the world around us, and his passion for hydropedology rubbed off on everyone he met. Dr. Hangsheng "Henry" Lin was a great friend, a great colleague, a great teacher and a great scientist. Henry worked tirelessly to advance soil science and hydrology, taught and mentored many students, and made friends with many people. I will always remember his cheerful spirits, his warm smiles, and his sharing of family Christmas card each year. I feel so sad! We lost a dear friend and a pioneering soil physicist; Henry’s family lost a loving husband and father. I will miss Henry. I remember meeting him when he was just finishing his PhD. His energy was infectious, and he built a strong program. His science outlives him, but I am sad we have lost him so early.

It is so sad to hear that Henry passed away last week. I have met Henry at many occassions and meetings. We sat togehter on many boards. I learned to know him very well when we were travelling through China and visiting the Loess plateau in 2016. He adviced us in Germany how to make the best out of our researh in TERENO. He was always friendly, helpful, energetic and very professional. It was a pleasure working with him. We have lost a great scientists dedicated to science an his profession. But most of all he was a great person. I will miss him. May he rest in peace.
