To the Hollack family. I was deeply saddened to hear my favorite couple in State College passed on too late to come and pay my respects properly. Out of respect, I always called him Mr Hallock (although over the years he told me to call him Hal and I still couldn’t lol)... he was a revolutionary person in my life in high school... always so encouraging and thoughtful he was able to help convince me that it was ok to feel like you don’t fit in, in fact it was a blessing not a curse. Being creative and different from others, after I moved to the district from a rival school...I often shied away from using my full potential artistically, until he was my substitute teacher for the 1st time. His energy lit up any space he entered and he never ceased to be able to make people feel heard and important, and awesome just the way they were. Never too busy to stop and chat over the years, and he never once forgot my name & would even always rave over all of my rainbow of haircolor choices I wore once I became a hairstylist. The purple being their favorite of course. Mrs Hallock always inspired me with her hairstyles and the two of them had such a iconic vibe about them. When he introduced me to his wife and I would see them over the years, I always loved their essence as a couple, so unified and passionate, their love was palpable. My lil girl would often clap when she saw them in the store with their fun capes, and his hat with the feather & they would always humor and entertain her while we talked. I will always miss both of them and would love to have a photo or two if your family has any to spare, for an altar I have in my home I pay respect to when I pray, for those I loved who have left the physical world. I guess I just wanted all of you to know your loved ones made such an incredible impact on so many people, I am sure I am merely a drop in the ocean of all of the people that loved them! My name is Billie, & I met him at Bellefonte high school in the 90’s, so they came to feel like extended family after all of these years, so I would love to get to know some of theirs, and see how I could contribute to their legacy in any way. I can be reached at ladybutafly123@hotmail.com Sending love and light to all of you!

To Hal's Family;
I met Hal back in the 70's in State College. I always thought of him as very Artistically inclined. Was very shocked when I heard of his passing and his wife's as well. We are sending Thoughts and Prayers and Love to all of you in this mournful time.
With Deepest Sympathy,
Phyllis and Eric Johnston

My deepest condolences to Hal & Natalie’s family. I had Hal as a substitute teacher many times at State High & each time was a great experience. He was so kind, caring & had awesome stories to share. I can’t imagine many subs are remembered & talked about 20 or 30 years later, but I’ve always enjoyed telling my kids stories about my favorite sub with the purple corvette!!

Mr. Hallock was the best substitute! I remember getting to school, seeing his purple corvette in the parking lot and wondering if (hoping) he’d be subbing for one of my teachers that day. I can still see him —over 20 years later — with his shoulders back and slightly wide gait, walking down the hallway of Bellefonte High. All the kids would see him and affectionately yell “Elvis!” and “Hey Mr. Hallock!” and he’d say hello and keep walking with a grin on his face. He was such a genuinely kind and caring man with his own brand of wonderful uniqueness. He will be missed.

Mr. Hallock was my substitute art teacher one day in high school. We were working on value drawings of our hands. I could not move past the 2nd dimension. I wish I could remember what he’d said to me but he gave me advice and it clicked! All of a sudden I was drawing amazing value drawings. Something I did not know I had in me. I will never forget the moment that click happened and the crazy substitute teacher who awakened this gift within me.
Thank you, Hal! State College will never be the right amount of weird without you!
