Jim Ross posted a condolence
Friday, January 24, 2020
I have many memories of hunting, fishing, skiing, building two boats together. Fortunately, I missed the dog trials phase and the sailing phase. Intensity was always the order of the day. Sandy and I send our sympathy to the Malia family and to Helen. There is a book entitled "Outlive your Life". The testimonies to Jim shows that he has done that well.
Jim Ross.

Grandpa Malia knew how to make a man. He taught me the values of hard work, thinking through a problem, living an active life, and putting family above all else. Grandpa’s love for his grandchildren was special and he knew how to connect to us in our own way. We always enjoyed sharing sea-stories and military challenges, from the 50s to today. Grandpa will be missed but lives on in my heart and memory. Semper Fortis Grandpa.

There have been countless memories I hold near and dear to my heart that center around my grandfather and from the house on Lisle road. Apple cider making every year was one of my favorite weekends. From the actual picking of apples to the dance parties we held in the driveway, and jumping in the pool one last time even though it was 50 degrees. Quilt camp with Jaime and Brenna and making my very first quilt and pillow from the watchful eye of grandpa. Learning how to dive in his pool. And then seeing who could hold their breath the longest while sitting at the bottom. Grandpa always seemed to win that one. He taught me how to bomb down ski hills, make his secret, and best, powdered Gatorade, feed a horse the correct way, and he always made sure I had a pepperMint patty on the way out (grandpa treat). Grandpa will be surely missed, but I know he’s out there cheering for me like he did at all my sporting events growing up. I love you Grandpa.

Sneaker shopping with all the grandkids every Christmas, quilt camp with Jaime, persuading me to try new foods (anyone who knew me as a child knows this was a huge feat), teaching me to dive, sharing our love for classical music and Yo-Yo, and our disdain for fake fruit centerpieces. I can hear his laugh clear as day. Love you always, G.

Uncle Jim has left a long and lasting legacy. His children, grand children, great grand children...in fact, everyone who had the honor of knowing him, will remember his generous spirit. He will go on in the hearts of everyone his kindness touched.

I'm so sorry to hear about Uncle Jim's passing. I remember as a kid swimming with him in their pool and then going inside to eat delicious zucchini bread Aunt Shirley made. Uncle Jim will be missed here on earth, but I know he's up in heaven right now with Aunt Shirley.

Jim and I spent the better part of 30 years at IBM Owego.
He was always my go to guy on tough technical programs and issues.
Along the way we also had some good times.
Wow! Still skiing at 88! That ended for me at 75.
I am sure he will be missed by many.
Regards,
Don Annis

My Dad, my Father, my Mentor, our Patriarch. Wow what an amazing man who did so many amazing things. He had to have a farm to raise a family on it. Why? To show and teach us oh so many things, planting, harvesting, barn building, horse riding, raising animals. Hunting, fishing, camping, and field trials, oh such memories, Loon Lake camping, being knocked over shooting his reveared Browning 12 ga. for the first time. Sitting with him by the black and white tv watching Saturn/Apollo Missions to go where no man has gone. My dad was a part of that and to see the pride as a child was noticed, but only understood later in my life. Everything was a mission and well planned out by my father, his guidance is a huge part of who I am today. There was a static problem in college and no student could solve it, the professor failed at solving it, guess who solved it? My Dad, I have that 10 page solution he mailed to me at college still to this day. His impact to my children, his grand children shows daily in their lives. God put him on a mission these past few months, a mission that will unfold in time and his way. My Dad's mission on earth is over, his impacts were great, I am missing him and know his faith in Christ our Savior will let me and his family see him again.

My dad was a strong man in so many ways. He raised five kids to be thinkers. He always challenged us to think about things and what we could do to make them better. He raised us to be strong and independent. He gave us opportunities to demonstrate our strengths AND improve our weaknesses. He gave us a love of nature, animals, the ocean, reading and solving puzzles. He gave us love. I will miss him so much.
