I just learned of Arthur's passing. I knew Arthur when we were both undergraduates at Penn State. For a period of time, he shared an apartment with myself and Steve Shaffer. I have only fond memories of Artie.

I recall our teenage years, our high school days of chatting on the phone about things teenage boys chat about-girls, music, future plans and life in general. I recall your Continentals, the early days of the boy band groups, formerly R & B. I’m sure you’re working on your harmony and steps now too. I appreciated the times you called me for those chats. I’m glad we got a chance to talk a few months ago. Life took us in different paths, but you were ever in my mind, my friend. Du Wayne Meliotes

On the occasions we lived in State College we were very close to Arthur. Since he was without local family we would have him over for holiday meals, particularly Thanksgiving when we would eat, drink, play recorded and live music. Those days were always a joy. As a fellow pianist Arthur was always very generous about letting me sit-in at his gigs. We recorded together at the Music Academy for our own study. He also hired our son Jef, a vibraphonist, for gigs around town. He was the linchpin of jazz in Center County. An Era has passed.

I studied piano for many years with Arthut. He was an outstanding teacher, always supportive and encouraging. He was also a friend. He had Thanksgiving dinner with my large extended family for several years . they will all miss him. To say that I will miss him is an understatement. .What a lot of music he had stored in his head! As someone who can't memorize one piece, I found this mind-boggling. Farewell, Arthur. You will always have a place in my heart. Bunny Moon

My condolences to Arthur's family and many friends. I was privileged to know him in graduate school at Florida State and then later at Penn State where he was working on his music degree and I was working on my English doctorate. He was an astounding talent and great person to know, then. The tributes on Facebook of his many current friends attest to the fact that he only became more of himself -- a man of integrity who nurtured his gifts and his friends.

Arthur was one of the great treasures of Central PA - as a musician, and as a quiet yet compelling member of the creative community. So very sorry for his loss - this is the end of an era indeed - and so grateful to have known him.

Arthur, Art, was a true genius with his musical talents. I met him in high school and we sang and traveled together as a "singing group" named the Continetals. We had a blast singing at record hops, school proms, and various venues in and around Butler, PA. We even recorded a record, yes a vinyl memory, of a few of Art's original songs. A special keepsake now that Arthur has passed. Blessings to all of the family.
With the greatest of respect,
Jim Sandloop
