Dr. Magnusson was one of the professors I helped out with various clerical duties as my work study job at Penn State. She was always kind, funny and supportive. She found out my favorite type of cake and baked me one on my 21st birthday. I really appreciated my time with her. A wonderful woman.

Dr. Magnusson, a pioneer for Women's Sports, yes, and so much more! Mentor to many, counselor to most, and trusted colleague of mine during my coaching days at Penn State. Always the epitome of grace and integrity, the life lessons I learned from "Lu" helped to shape my career and most certainly, my life. Her strength, endurance, and dedication were Hallmarks of her leadership style.
Lu and I met for lunch quite some time ago at The Village. She was most enthusiastic that I should learn about the facilities as a place of residence that I might consider someday. She was a true ambassador for The Village at Penn Sate! She so enjoyed the people, the activities, and especially the proximity to a place that she loved and sports programs that she helped to shape.
There will always be favorite memories of: conversations, laughter, and above all, the wisdom that she bestowed on us all.
My sincerest condolences to her family....Dr. Magnusson was one of the profession's brightest stars....may her light shine on through all who knew her.....

Last spoke with her, say a year ago, and she was still the same gracious lady that I first engaged with as a student back in 1968, I believe. The old PSU staff/professors/students from that era were pioneers in the history changing of early Chapter 9. We have lost a giant not only in women's efforts to break out of the chains, but a giant in terms of her kindness and grace. Will miss her dearly !

I got to know Lu through our church activities. We would chat Sunday’s mornings in the narthex. She always had a smile and a twinkle in her eye. A delightful woman. My condolences.

When I was a student at PSU in the ‘70’s Dr. Magnusson helped me on my career journey. She immediately impressed me with her sincere, caring attitude and the ability to ask some questions which were instrumental as I moved on in life. I was able to attend law school in large part due to her influence. I came to realize that the greatest thing I could do was to try and make a positive impact in others lives....I coached and taught all over the country but was Blessed to return to Penn State and a dream job for 26 years . Despite being a colleague she was never Lu but will ALWAYS be remembered as Dr. Magnusson. A true lady,
a consummate professional and a warrior for equal opportunity for women. She helped pave the way for my daughter to have the opportunity to earn a scholarship to play Division 1 Volleyball. Rest In Peace Dr. Magnusson. You will always be an integral part of my “Good Old Days”
