Dr. Johnson was my "Grandpa Mel." He stepped into a place my biological grandparents were not able to fill. He was a real role model: a wise, gentle, and strong man. He was a man of the earth: steadfast, good-natured, and nurturing. He was the kind of man every man should hope to be. The world is a poorer place without him in it. But I am so glad that he is at peace and with Grandma Gerry.
I can never pay back Grandpa Mel for all he did for me. I can only try to pay it forward. I hope that I can have a fruitful life, like he did. And to leave half the legacy he did.

I would like to share my condolences with all of Melivin Johnson's family members. We have never met but I had the privilege of working with Mr. Johnson over the span of the last decade or so. During those years I had been employed at State College Ford where he had purchased 4 vehicles from me. Two trucks and two Taurus's. I recently took a job closer to home and he was definitely at the top of my list of favorite people that I was going to miss the most. I was always amazed at his age that he was still on the go and was very much active in the things he loved most. My Mom worked in the College of Ag in the Administration BuiIding(Alumni Relations) her whole life and was very involved in the planning of Ag progress days. I like to think that at some point in time they crossed paths too. We could never confirm this tho. I never got to see his tractors but I am glad you posted the picture of his 66. It is beautiful!! He reminded me so much of my Grandfather and I am very saddened to hear of his passing. He spoke with so much enthusiasm of how much he enjoyed going to see his family out of state and how much he enjoyed the ride of his new Taurus on that first trip to see you all! God Bless everyone of you! He will always be in memories too!

I knew "Doc Johnson", as we referred to him at the Nittany Antique Machinery shows on the Thrashing and Baling crew. Doc always seemed to be in good humor and I was always impressed by his stamina for his years. He was generally there to set up for the show and was one of the few that helped put the equipment away at the end of the show. Doc and I always had things to talk about both of us being farm boys and "Penn State Agies" . One of the subjects, seems pretty recently, was his corn trails, work that went on long after he had retired. Communication in later years was a little difficult, particularly around running equipment, due to his hearing loss but I always enjoyed it. I was really saddened to read of his passing, a good man that will be missed.
