I just learned of Rana's passing when I went on the Koch web site to check out my favorite sister and her Therapy dog Monroe.
Rana and I lectured to many a class - especially for the Festival of the Arts training program for volunteers. As a paraplegic, I talked about helping from an impaired mobility perspective, Rana from a visual. We both got a chuckle out of the fact that ADA standards that helped impaired mobility could cause a difficulty with visual impairments and visa versa. Rana and I would get so into talking about these we would forget that we were there to talk to the volunteers. I have a feeling they learned a lot from our interaction with each other.
Rana was an amazing person and unfortunately we lost touch with each other but I never lost my admiration for this lady.
The world lost a true advocate.
I can only imagine how much her family misses her.
Blessings.

I met Rana as nurse and caregiver for her mother. Though miles separated us she inspired me. What a loving person. Peace be with the family.

Rana and Steve and we enjoyed a long friendship, though distant in later years. From 1966, when we met as residents of College Terrace in Palo Alto, we had so many enjoyable times. Less so in recent years, but never out of mind! We have been going over old photos of them and us. I was looking for her today to reconnect, when I found this notice. Our hearts go out to Timothy and Christopher. We are so saddened that we won't get to have another visit with our vivacious friend. Rita and Tony Kidd

Rona and Steve and Tim and Chris were like family. We will miss them both and remember the good times we shared over the years. Dinners, plays, movies, artist series, backyard picnics.... all carry the fondest of memories.

I met Rana when her son, Chris, was in my kindergarten class at Lemont Elementsry School. She brought sunshine and rainbows into my classroom! Rana brought her guide dogs into kindergarten for several years teaching the children about the beauty of the world even if you couldn't actually see it.
Always upbeat and fun...she invited another teacher and I to a belly dance "recital" at her home in Toftrees. We had the best time!
Rana touched many lives, including mine. Her spirit and joy will be with me forever.

Rana always rose to the occasion, no matter what the challenge. I will never forget her teaching us to belly dance in Michigan. She would walk down the row and feel our bellies. I mean, I don't think there was a thing that Rana couldn't do if she put her mind to it. I have never met anyone like her. And even though I didn't get to see her often, her bright, colorful and positive personality stayed with me throughout the years. She did a lot of good on this earth. Sending love to Tim, Chris and their families.

The world lost one of our brightest lights. My condolences to family & friends for your loss
I met Rana when I was a teen. I helped with housework after she inserted herself in front of a boiling pot so that her son would not get burned. Later she taught a belly dancing class which was so much fun! I think she actually did a belly dancing demonstration at an Arts Festival using her cane to aid her to stay on the stage. Fearless.
The last time I saw her was after her husband Steve had passed. He was one of my dad's best friends. She went with Dad & I to see Cirque du Soleil when they were in State College. She brought a telescope of sorts and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. She shared some stories of the cast she had picked up from the local taxi drivers. Such an incredible spirit.

My deepest condolences to you and your families on Rana's passing. I met Rana decades ago when I volunteered to record a book on tape for her personal use. I was struck by her vitality, wit, intelligence, and caring nature. . . and by her wonderful and loving relationship with her dog. :) Rather ironically, I, too, would later experience my own sight issues and she was always so generous with information and support. When my condition improved, and I was back in the world after a long period of being bed-ridden, she invited me to lunch as a way of celebration, a gesture that I'll always treasure, and I was so glad to be able to do some more book recording for her (on Seeing Eye dog training). Rana was an amazing woman. Please know that you and your families are in my thoughts during this difficult time.

My deepest sympathies to the family. We lost a wonderful spirit too soon. I met Rana a long time ago when I volunteered for the Sight Loss Support Group. Over the years she gently pushed me out of my shy shell and helped me to gain confidence in myself. She Showed me in her joy of living and her desire to help and advocate for others just how special we all are. Rana will be missed by many. I am so grateful she was such a large and important part of my life. I will miss her greatly and love her always!

I met Rana at a PA Art Education conference in 1995 where we were both presenting workshops. She was captivating, informative and funny. I was intrigued by what she had to say about working with people with blindness or vision impairment, and how they could experience art through guided touch - and I didn't even realize she, herself was blind, until afterward in the crowded hallway when I tripped over her guide dog Millie. I was hooked and immediately began working with the SLSG. I love how she looked you straight in the eye. One would hardly have known she was blind - until she told you - or you saw her guide dog - or tripped over it! She was extraordinarily creative and a steadfast giver who always looked on the bright side of life. Rana had a wonderful sense of color, and, in her latter years, painted beautiful abstract artworks. She was also a dear friend whom I, along with thousands of others, will miss greatly. My prayers for you, Tim and Chris, and for your grieving families . . .

A grande dame, charming and full of fun even when she was hurting. Rana cared about others so much and has left a legacy that reflects her caring perfectly--the SLSG. A lover of art, theater, dogs, and above all people, she brought joy and peace to many in our area who were struggling with sight loss, turning their lives around. Her generosity was infectious!
