I know this is an extremely late post. But I didn't know about losing such a wonderful soul. Mardi worked at the CDC at State College. I was lucky enough to be the Director at the Child Development Lab in the Human Development Bldg, South Henderson. I was there from 1988 to 1992. Our staff was the best and Mardi was included in there. She was a natural in the classroom, her skills were 2nd nature and expressed such enjoyment of teaching. We attended her wedding and was blown away by the beauty of her love for her family..

I will always remember Mardi and friends from our Science Class at State High at the end of the hallway. We learned science yes, but this class was closer than most and we all enjoyed each other and our time together. Mardi was a big part of it and I will miss her. Dave Wasson

Mardi was the first female role model in my life. I was two years behind her in school, and was extremely lucky to be in the marching band when she was drum major. She is so full of energy and life, and her leadership skills were outstanding. Fortunately I reconnected with her as adults and was able to tell her how much I admired her. She is truly amazing in my eyes, and I will always look up to her. She will be missed.

Dear, Lee and Family. I was so very sad to hear of Mardi's passing. Though I never met her in person, Lee always spoke so fondly of his daughter and just reading her obituary now, I realize what an incredible woman she truly was. She certainly will be missed by many. The world has lost one of the very best. Lee, our family always enjoyed time spent with you and we miss you very much. Please know we hold you in our heart and prayers. With deepest condolences, Patty and Craig

My heart goes out to all of you. Teachers make the world a better place in countless ways both seen and unseen. I can only imagine the number of lives that have been blessed by Mardi's love, and many gifts. Two of my children were lucky enough to have spent time in the shelter of her wings. I am forever grateful for her presence in their lives.

I am so heartbroken to learn this news. Mardi was my son's sixth grade home room teacher, just last year. She said the nicest things to us and he enjoyed being in her class. I'm so glad my son had the opportunity to spend time with her. My deepest condolences to the family. Her beauty, both inside and out, and her bright positive spirit were something anyone would immediately notice about her. My family sends our love and prayers and hope that you can feel a little comfort knowing that Mardi touched so many lives in such a positive way -- she is very special.

Over my 37-year tenure as the State High Band Director I was fortunate to have worked with many outstanding individuals. At graduation I would often look at many seniors and think “this person has the potential to make a big difference in the lives of others.” However, for a few I would think “this person is certain to make a big difference in the lives of others.” Mardi was one of the few who I knew in my heart was destined to make a big difference.
I am pleased to see that the family has arranged for her life to be honored through The Mardi Lowry McDonough '87 Student Opportunity Fund and Grant Program and grateful that the Education Foundation plans to award at least one grant each cycle to a music department, music program, or music group-related request, so that her life will continue to touch others through music. I will always be thankful for the time our lives intersected.

I will always remember your infectious smile, laugh, and your love of children. I was so fortunate that I had the chance to work with you when you were a PDA. Your mom was my 6th grade teacher so many years ago. She actually had you, Colleen, the year I was in her class. She has always been remembered fondly and was always one of my favorites. Her smile and laughter were infectious! I am so sorry for your loss! She will be missed by so many!

Your mother was one of my patients after a procedure she had done several years ago. She talked about you and the girls constantly, and every time she mentioned you her whole face would light up. It was beautiful to see. God Bless you Mardi. Rest In Peace.

Mardi, I have known you most of my life. We grew up together - going back to 3rd grade (I think). We didn’t see each other that often as adults, but when we did, I would always think “Hey! There’s Mardi!” and be happier for been lucky enough to do so. The world is a little dimmer without your shining light in it. I hope, some day, I will get to see you again.

Thank you so much for sharing Mardi, and this absolutely magnificent tribute to her life, with us. It is so clear she impacted so many people in so many authentic and genuine ways. It is truly incredible the impact someone can have on someone else, and the reach of Mardi's impact is so broad and awe-inspiring. Mardi is the kind of human I aspire to be and I am so grateful to have known her, laughed with her, and learned from her. The Duffs are just around the corner and we are thinking of you all. Charles Barkley the Corgi is sending Mardi kisses in heaven, and he thinks she is so cool for giving Murphy the middle name of Dumbledore...who once said: "The ones that love us never really leave us," and, "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." Mardi will forever be that light. Love to you all. - Tara and Adam Duff

Nick, Colleen, Grace, Kris, and extended family, I knew Mardi well but didn’t know half of her amazing story until reading this beautiful story of a life well lived. This is such an amazing tribute to a truly wonderful woman. She lives on through the thousands of lives she has touched. I read a column recently that it’s not how long you live, but what you do with your dash between the years. She did more with her dash than most do with many more years, truly a wonderful life. It was such an honor to be her colleague and friend. I learned so much from her. We are all standing strong with you and are here for you. May knowing you have so much support and so many fond memories bring you comfort. Sending lots of hugs, Jeff Tranell

I was on the Centre County Junior Miss Board of Directors the year Mardi won the award. She was so attractive, so
talented. so personable, we had some difficulty in attracting some girls to enter the program. When we inquired, what we
heard was "Mardi is entering, we don't have a chance." It was the only time I ever heard that type comment, and every
single girl said it with admiration for Mardi. Condolences to family and friends. Keith Bierly
