I was so fortunate to have gotten to know Bridget first through my late husband Peter Palmquist who was, like Heinz, a photohistorian. After Peter's death, Bridget and I started corresponding, and through our letters, we really did get a sense of each other. I liked her so much. I loved hearing about her relationship with Petronella, her enthusiasm about their visits. Bridget was a bonus in my life.

I was so lucky to be among the one hundred or so people that Bridget corresponded with over the years. I met Bridget and Heinz through my husband John Wood, also a photo historian. I am also a medievalist by profession, and Bridget generously helped me with invaluable material, and more importantly, with enormous moral support and cheering, for my first book, The Chaucer Songbook. As the years went by, our correspondence became more concerned with family, food, groundhog babies, and life in general, and Bridget's letters are so charming and full of her sweet wit that I have saved every one of them. Now I am more glad than ever to have done that.
In recent years, Bridget has been a great model for me. I admire so much the way she was able to carry on somehow after the terrible and sudden loss of her dear husband. I also admire the way she continued to research and write and plan her books right up to the end. The last letter that I had from her (around Easter of this year) was full of happy plans for the new book.

Bridget and I have corresponded by letter on a monthly basis for over twenty years, her letters always full of inspiration, encouragement, good humour and of course love. It was always a joy to see one of her letters in the letterbox sometimes with news of her family in England, sometimes with news of Sparky. Her last letter was dated May 9th but did not reach me until late May and sadly I think she would not have seen my reply.
We became friends almost accidentally when I wrote to notify her that her childhood friend who happened to live next door to me had sadly become ill and was in a care home unable to correspond herself with Bridget. Over time, Bridget mentioned Jean (McIntyre) many, many times, expressing her memories of places here in the north east of England and the surrounding area when she and Jean were at school In Newcastle and later as they were older and visited places further afield.
I came across Bridget’s obituary quite by accident and have no idea of the circumstances given the unusual times we are suffering under the shadow of COVID-19.
I would like to send my deepest condolences to all Bridget’s family and friends.

I had been friends with Bridget and Heinz for many years and when I made a collection of poems, which I read to them, they offered to publish it. My first book of poetry, FATHOMS, appeared under their imprint, The Carnation Press, in 1981. Thanks to their encouragement, I continued a poetry career that had begun in my1960s NYC Greenwich Village days.
I was also the recipient of Bridget's missives whenever I published something new. She was a wonderful friend and I will miss her sparkling personality, especially upon encountering her walking Manya Mauner's dachshund around our neighborhood. RIP, dear friend!

Bridget and Heinz came to my History of Photography class at Penn State in the early 2000s to introduce the photography collection they had donated to the Special Collections Library. As an historian of gastronomy, Bridget made a "photographer's cheesecake," in effect a rich lemon tart, to share with the class. In the 19th century, when the albumen print became a common medium for photographic prints on paper, photographers utilized many an egg white to prepare the paper, and the "photographer's cheesecake" was a recipe developed to make use of all the leftover yolks (along with a little butter, sugar, lemon, and so forth). The students were amazed by the cheesecake but even more taken with her knowledge of the collection, not to mention her charm, which no one would fail to see. Our students at Penn State continue to study and benefit from the Henisch Collection, and I will think of her with fondness and respect.

Professor Locke, thank you for this sweet comment about Bridget. I don't know any of her other friends or any of her family, and I am left wondering about the manner of her death. I don't know if you will see this comment, or if you know anything about her death, but if you do and are able to contact me, I would appreciate it very much.
