Ever since I stopped subscribing to the Centre Daily Times, I've had the sorrow of missing a few very meaningful notices such as this one.
Ms. Hogan was the special education teacher in elementary school of one of my sons, who at that time was unmanageable in any other classroom. Not only did she find unique, loving ways to guide him away from his turbulent ways but she did so with genuine love and humor, generously supporting him and his family whenever we needed her. That included outside the classroom by phone even until late hours as if she had nothing else to do.
What a contrast to his previous, first teacher who saw fit to lock him in a large cloak closet to control him, as well as manipulating his classmates with fear treating them (in the words of her assistant teacher ) as if they were the "wild animals" she assured me they were.
Without her imaginative, motherly touch he would never have "graduated" from the otherwise completely restrictive environment he began in, even managing to finally win admission to Harvard, contrary to all expectations to the contrary including the school's pressure at one time to attend a specialized boarding school.
Thank you, dear Ms. Hogan, who devoted herself so wholeheartedly to "her" children, refusing more honorific and higher paying positions so she could contribute to working such miracles hands-on at her own expense. May your memory ever be a blessing.
