Obituary of Virginia Suhey
Virginia (Ginger) Higgins Suhey, 84, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2011 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. She was born on July 3, 1927 in Clarksburg, W.Va., the daughter of the late Robert A. Higgins and Virginia Gaylord Higgins. On March 3, 1949 Ginger married her beloved husband Steven J. Suhey, who preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1977. A life-long resident of State College, Ginger was a 1944 graduate of State College Area High School, and a 1948 graduate of Penn State University. Upon graduation, she taught physical education at Juniata College. After the death of her husband, she took over his business, LG Balfour Co., with her son Lawrence. She was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, Penn State Nittany Lion Club and St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
Ginger is fondly remembered for her warm hospitality, love of golf and football. When her father became Penn State's head football coach in 1930 she attended football games from an early age. Many remember her love of entertaining and cooking as she hosted family and friends after Penn State football games through the years. Upon her retirement, Ginger traveled throughout the world and enjoyed winters in Phoenix, AZ.
Ginger is survived by her adoring children Stephen J. Suhey Jr. and his wife Louise of San Antonio, TX, Kathy Suhey of State College, Betsy Suhey and John Imbt of State College, Lawrence M. Suhey and his wife Christine of Lemont, Nancy V. Suhey of Phoenix, AZ, Paul V. Suhey and his wife Carolyn of Boalsburg, Matthew J. Suhey and his wife Donna of Deerfield, IL; and by her 11 cherished grandchildren Marie E. Suhey, Steven J. Suhey lII and his wife Heather, Kara A. Suhey, Amanda L. Suhey and her husband Oscar Giaverini, Kevin A. Suhey, Douglas H. Suhey, Joseph S. Suhey, Emily G. Suhey, Allison K. Suhey, Paul R. Suhey, and Scott M. Suhey and her devoted sisters Mary Ann Higgins Lyford and her husband Ralph of Knoxville, TN and Nancy Higgins Dooley and her husband James of Allentown and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family will be at Koch Funeral Home from 5-8 pm on Nov 30th
Services will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 208 West Foster Avenue at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Richard Wall officiating.
Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park at the family's convenience.
