It was with much nostalgia and sadness that I learned of Derald's passing through the Koch Funeral Home obituary online.
I attempted to call Derald in the last few days to let him know of the recent death of one of our fellow officers, Kent Stainfield,
from our days aboard the USS LST 1068 (USS Orange County) during the Korean War. As old shipmates from those days, we
maintained contact through the years and of course cherished our friendships of long standing. I will miss his Christmas notes
and reminiscences about our experiences in a byegone era. Sincere condolences to all of you in Derald's family. May God
grant him Peace and Eternal Life.

Dear Robin, BK, Madison and Samantha,
I often read the obituaries because I am not always familiar with relationships of people whom I know and have known. It was with some sadness that I learned that your father/father-in-law/grandfather passed away. My condolences to you all and wish that you have fond memories of him to help you through this time,
As Qaukers, we "hold people in the light", which I will be doing for you.

Dear Family of Derald Stump: Sally and I are very sorry to learn of your loss. Derald was a longtime friend and neighbor whose children and ours grew up together ... and are still friends! He and Jean raised them well. May he rest in peace.

What a wise, funny, wonderful role model, and all-around GREAT guy he was. He was such a happy part of our family: from marrying our son, J.R. and his wife, to coming to BLESS Christie at her "Hail and Farewell" party before Afghanistan. He was always there for us! He sent me FUNNY emails almost every day - which I shared with the "girls" at my Mom's retirement home - where he was a LEGEND by reputation. The "girls" would always ask, "Do you have any new ones from Father Derald?" He was SO JOYFUL and we will miss him terribly. Love, Blessings and many condolences to his family.
