Dear Helen, Phil Jr., and Miranda - I am very saddened to read of the loss of dear Phil. My dad Barney always enjoyed his humor and his company. My mom liked him too, but her dementia made it hard for her to communicate. The Village at Penn State has lost one of its "greats", that's for sure. Mr. Keeney was always so cheerful and kind to us, whenever we saw him when visiting at the Village. He would always remember where we lived, and ask, "How's life in Mechanicsburg?" Such a kind man.... with a kind smile etched in nice creases on his happy face. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Cindy (and Ken) McCormick Miceli

Phil Keeney played a special role in my life as a life-long family friend, mentor, and professional role model. His humor, energy and enthusiasm were inspiring. Even in retirement Dr Keeney was the #1 Ambassador of Penn State Food Science. Over the years he and his gracious wife Elsie kept my family in their lives. We feel blessed. What an amazing legacy Phil has left at Penn State.

We were so sorry to hear of your Dad's death. Our fondest memories of him were seeing him at your tailgate and hearing that he walked there. We will not be able to be at the viewing on Tuesday night but rest assured that you and Miranda will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Phil, you know how much I will miss your Dad. What a great guy! He brought so much joy every time he walked into the store. We had so many good talks thru the years. Pulled no punches, told you exactly what he thought and I was so blessed to have known him. He meant a lot to all of us.

Praying for God's comfort for Phil and Miranda
Phil was my advisor at Penn State when I was getting my Master's degree in Dairy science/Food Science in 1966-68. The second year I was married so my wife came to campus to live in the Pastel places as the small grad houses were called. Phil and Elsie made her feel welcome. At that time we were in Borland Lab for classes and the Penn State Ice Cream Short Course was held there as well. Phil was an inspiration while in school and for the many years I worked in the dairy industry. He was a great friend to my father as well. Besides being known for his ice cream expertise, he was an expert in the confectionary industry. Many days he would be in the lab working the gas Chromatograph testing some vanilla bean or cocoa bean.
Great professor and will always be a mentor I will never forget.
