Obituary of Alice and Francis "Frank" Zonts
Alice Zonts, 86, of State College entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 15th; and, as per usual, had to wait for Francis "Frank" Zonts, 89, to catch up with her on Thursday, December 17th, 2020, both having shared a room and outstanding care at Mount Nittany Medical Center. The family will be forever grateful to the nurses, doctors and staff.
Alice was born February 2nd, 1934 in Gallitzin, PA. She was the daughter of Thomas Seymore and Vivian Harvey Colella. She married Francis "Frank" Zonts, on September 11, 1954. Alice was preceded in death by a son, Thomas.
Frank was born October 31st, 1931in Gallitzin, PA. He was the son of John Zonts and Catherine Hampsky Zonts. Frank was preceded in death by a son, Thomas, and his wife, Alice.
Alice and Frank are survived by two children, Robert Zonts (Cindy) of Zelienople; Robin Dum (Dave) of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Paul Dum (Melodie) of Arlington, VA; Laura Picozzi (Josh) of Pittsburgh, Taylor Flowers (Gannon) of Morgantown, WV; and Nathaniel Pennell-Dum (Ally) of Renton, WA. Frank is also survived by a sister, Mary Petyak of Pleasant Gap. Both Frank and Alice were preceded in death by their parents.
Alice was a graduate of Gallitzin High School and received her RN from The Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. Alice was active as a nurse until after the birth of their second child, at which time she turned the full measure of her loving energy to raising her family and keeping her home. After her children fled the nest, Alice worked for ten years in the Admissions Department of The Pennsylvania State University until Frank declared he was going to travel, and requested her company.
Frank was a graduate of Gallitzin High School, received a B.S. from St. Francis College in Loretto, and a M.S from The Pennsylvania State University. Frank served with the United Sates Army as part of The Allied Forces in Salzburg, Austria; and forever maintained a strong love for that country. In 1958 Frank was hired by The Pennsylvania State University, starting his career at what was then ORL. The young couple purchased their first and last house in Overlook Heights in September of 1958, and remained there for 60 years, steadfast members of their beloved community. Frank retired as Assistant Director of Contract Negotiations for The Pennsylvania State University after twenty-seven years. After retirement, Frank declared his intention to travel to Alice, and away they flew.
Alice played the piano, and was a member of a local chapter of a nurse's club. Frank was a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.
Alice and Frank loved all social gatherings and especially enjoyed those shared with family and close friends. Music was an essential part of their lives, whether it was playing the piano and singing, listening at home, or attending concerts. Frank encouraged early retirement in order to satisfy his wanderlust. The couple traveled to countries all over the world; and Frank enjoyed nothing more than relaying their adventures to anyone who cared to listen.
A private funeral burial will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the donor's favorite charity. The family encourages all who are able to get the Covid-19 vaccine.
