Our condolences to Irene, the families and friends. Huey was a good friend and colleague at Penn State. He had a wry sense of humor and a competitive spirit that was belied by his gentle demeanor. His students loved him for his support of their dreams. His service to God, community and campus is part of his lasting legacy. Rest in peace.

I met Huey around 1982 soon after I arrived at University Park. I am certain it was at one of our luncheons. What struck me about Huey was not that he towered over us. It was his gentle kind demeanor. His soft spoken style even made his jokes come across as caring. I believe Huey, made everyone feel comfortable around him. Rest In Peace

Huey was one of my closest and dearest friends in State College. I have never met anyone who was more generous and willing to go out of his/her way to help others! He was a gentle giant who demonstrated the best of what it means to be a caring human being. He will be sorely missed.

Huey and Ireen both served on the board at CentrePeace, which is where we met. While I'm uncertain just how many years both served on the board, I know the numbers were in the double digits. Huey's contribution of time and resources will not be forgotten and the value of his guidance on the board is immeasurable. He was a kind, gentle soul.

We met early on at his job at PSU. Joe Paterno had asked/selected him to participate in our recruitment of young men to our football team. Therefore we spent countless moments together while he counseled young men and families on weekend visits. I observed his grace and kindness while he helped us shape each new recruiting class. He was excellent at what he was born for!
My memories of him will always be based in the calmness he exuded while we discussed life. Our bumping into each other grew more and more infrequent as we passed the years together but that chance meeting was the brightest spot of my day each time it happened. We/All will miss you Huey.

Huey Jones was a great friend I met in 1971 as my wife's Academic Adviser as a freshmen in the DUS Program (Division of Undergraduate Academic Studies). His wife Irene Jones was a Nurse at the Mount Nittany Medical Center when my wife Victoria Torres Jackson was a patient recovering from Surgery and brought her flowers and uplift. Irene shared her beautiful Doll Collection with her friends who visited Huey and Irene which I enjoyed sharing.
I had the honor of sharing the 1995 Multicultural Staff Diversity Award for Academic Advising along with Huey Jones presented by Vice President for Equity Education, Dr. James Stewart and Michael Blanco from the Multicultural Center.
Huey and my friend James Locker shared many memories together aso as members of Albright Bethune Methodist Church over three decades. Huey was a faithful Veteran who served the United States Navy and later had perfect attendance record as an Academic Adviser at Penn State for three decades (source:Penn State )Intercom.
We will all miss his jolly friendship and gardening.
Rest in Peace Huey P. Jones.

I have so many great memories of my friend Huey Jones. I came to Penn State in 1979 and he was one of the first Black professionals I met on campus! My favorite memories of Huey is that he would always tease me and I would always tease him! It was such great fun that to this day I still smile whenever I think of his warmhearted teasing!
While Huey worked in student affairs counseling students and I worked in the Affirmative Action Office, I would often hear from many, many black students how he helped them navigate life at Penn State! He was well liked and respected by his students and his colleagues as well!
As a Christian, I know that "He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:1–8).
I also know that I will see my dear friend again, in Heaven, and tease him some more! RIP Huey!
