I have fond memories of my Uncle Nate, from early childhood memories of visits when we lived in Colorado, to the last time I was able to see him, during the trip pictured here when he made the trip across the country and spent several days with us. It was far too long of a gap in between, sad to say, but this trip reminded me of what a kind, sincere man he was. His legacy of caring and his scientific achievements shall not be forgotten.
Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, and all those who knew him and are touched by his loss.
Sincere condolences to Susan and your family. Nathan was an important part of our lives. I remember meeting him for the first time in 1964, when he came to Madison to be Best Man when I married his younger brother, Arlen. I had already heard many heartwarming stories from his brother, who admired him a great deal. He was an amiable person, very pleasant and enjoyable to be around. I have memories of watching slides of his travels in Europe from his extensive collection. He was a good photographer. Our trip to Vail, CO, in the 1970's was a great deal of fun. More recently, we enjoyed a trip to Crater Lake, OR and Spokane, WA. He will be remembered warmly in the hearts of all of my family.

Sharing wonderful memories of the time my family spent with my Uncle Nate at Crater Lake in 2012. We will miss you and your gentle, easygoing nature. Your presence in our lives has meant so much to us. With much love, Rochelle Blanco [née Hartwig], husband Henrry, and kids Adrián (15) and Isabel (10), and mother, Lois Hartwig
