Jesus said, "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted." When I read the Death Notice for Donna King, I hoped it was not the Donna King I knew. When I finally realized that is was she, I received the news in tears. When I first met her in the town park, she lead me up High Street to the Civil War Memorial and around to the back of the monument where the names of the African-American Soldiers who served the Union are listed. Now she walks and talks with them in the presence of divine light. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord." May the Lord in whom she trusted bring peace and comfort to the King family and all who knew her.

Mama King was my mentor in my research of African Americans who lived in Central PA. I will miss her and I hope to join her and the elders when it is my time to leave this earth.

Thank you for sharing the service with we who could not be there. Donna was my dearest friend here in State College. She was truly a Sistah who never stopped praying. I continue to pray Barry for you and your kids and grand kids. I love each of you dearly and I know that you were the center of Donna's universe along with her Savior Jesus. God Bless!

Donna your were a pillar of the family, and your energy with students, the church and community will certainly be missed. It was always a pleasure speaking with her, and conversations about her early days in new york , and her experience as an educator were always enriched. To you Barry and the rest of the family, our deepest sympathy to all of you . Do things in her honor, and may she rest in peace.

We wanted to send our deepest condolences to the entire family. Mrs. Donna welcomed me (Sonya) in the family when I was over the work-study students in loans and scholarships and one of those students happened to be my dear little sister Kristall. She was a role model and signified what Black excellence looked like. I was always blown away by her devoted commitment to the Lord, her family, the students, and her mission in the world. Her smile warmed your heart. She then welcomed Juan into the fold like he had been there all along. We are blessed to have known her and know she will be missed. Our prayers are going up for you all indeed. God has called His daughter home. What a joy it is to know who she served and that we will see her again someday. Love you guys so much! The SessomsFamily

It is with sincere sympathy & tremendous sorrow that the Selden family express our grief for your loss! The Selden family have heavy hearts for "Queen King," as I would address my dear friend and colleague, Dr. Donna King whenever I was in her presence.
I am a better person because of my routine interactions with this inspirational professor, colleague & friend, Dr. Donna King. Donna was a rare & highly talented beacon of life as a spiritual leader, civil war & underground railroad historian & a noted authority on the Black Press! This is an unimaginative loss to the King family and our Penn State & State College community! Donna will never be forgotten & will forever be apart of the indelible fabric of lives that make up our small diverse community! The Lord apparently has a mission that requires Donna's expertise. He has selected a champion that will serve him well! Godspeed my beloved Queen! Amen!

Mama King inspired my work as an educator. I feel blessed to have learned from her how to talk to children about social justice as a cycle in which we have moved from injustice to freedom, making meaningful strides time and again. She lifted my heart each time she broke into song. I will hear her voice and feel her presence in every rendition of “Oh Freedom” and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.” Thank you Mama King for touching my life in such a beautiful way.

Barry and Family, I am so very sorry for this deep loss. Donna was a kindred spirit who changed our community. As an African American in Bellefonte, she made me understand that I am part of a continuing Black presence that has been here for over a century. How we will miss her smile and her insistence on speaking the truth. I will take that forward. Much, much love. Amy Freeman

Rev. King was the embodiment of spirit and light; I am blessed to have had opportunity to work with her on a Freedom Tour for Pre-school children. Our discussions on faith, hope and freedom resonate within me often. Mamma King never shied away from doing the “hard work.” As her loss is mourned, may her messages live on. Thank you for the many gifts Mamma King, may you rest in peace.

The Rev. Doctor King (Donna) was a good friend and an amazing person of strong faith. She was a tremendous inspiration to all her knew her. Her's was a voice shouting in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the LORD's coming! Clear the road for him!'” That was her focus every day. Preparing the way of the Lord.
