What a good man. I worked with Jim for some 30 years and am better because I knew him. His honesty, truth and empathy always made him special.
My sincere sympathy to his wife and family. May he rest in peace.

Sending deepest sympathy to BJ and the Rhodes family for the loss of such a wonderful person, boss, mentor and friend. Jim gave me my first job in advancement at Penn State while I was in graduate school and patiently taught me many skills in working with people, writing effectively and fund raising. He always caught my dangling participles! His support and advice as I explored other positions at the university was invaluable. I have fond memories of madrigal singers and BJ's orange and poppy seed salad when I first arrived in State College - I just made that salad for New Year's. I am sad to learn of Jim's passing. I will always be grateful to have known him.

I worked with Jim at The Office of Gifts and Endowments in Old Main during the late 70s early 80s. He was one of the kindest people I’ve known. Never in a hurry to discuss projects, he was sincere and appreciative of the researched reports I wrote for him. I had tremendous respect for Jim as a man of integrity, and I know others with whom we worked felt the same.
I sent my condolences to his wife, BJ, his daughters and their families.

Jim and I grew up in the same town so we always enjoyed reminiscing about places and people we knew. Jim was a total gentleman and a class act. I will miss him. Sending sympathy to all of the family, especially BJ. Great picture of Jim! ❤️
