I only got to know Mr. Butler from the time he and his wife moved to The Village. Mr. Butler was a "hoot" as my father would have said, from day one. His outgoing nature, kind manner and joking personality will be missed. He always made me smile and was the bright spot of my day when working at the front desk. I will truly miss him, as we all will. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Al has been a special gift and friend to many in the community and churches they attended. I met Al and Jane shortly after they moved to State College and while I was a greeter at Calvary Church. That first impression was that this man is a friendly, outgoing, happy go lucky and fun to be around. And as I got to know him better, that proved true. After getting to know Al better, I also learned that he had a big heart and gift for serving others. My husband and I had the pleasure of having Al and Jane join our small church group. Al was a joy to be around and always lightened up the conversation with a joke or two and his jolly laughter. He was always ready to help in times of need. I will never forget Al's famous words of advice and wisdom: "JUST SHOW UP". And with his big servant heart, Al always SHOWED UP. I'll never forget the love and support of this special small group, when inspired by Jane and Al to "SHOW UP", they provided a meal at the funeral of my brother.
Out of this "coed" small group, another small group was formed. We called it the "Saturday Morning Ladies Group". Al and Jane welcomed us into their home every Saturday morning for a warm breakfast and fellowship. Before Jane sent Al to his upstairs office, he would start us off with a joke, words of wisdom or other "Al-isms" on community, friendship, kindness, and yes we all received the million dollar bills. Our "Ladies" group did life together and Al was always "SHOWING UP" to help with moving, to offer real estate & financial advice and much more. Al made us laugh with his humor, he encouraged us, he mentored us and taught us life skills and lessons. Al was the first to offer assistance, and true to his own famous advice, Al always "SHOWED UP"! I think I can speak for the rest of the ladies, that Al was just as much a part of this "Ladies Group" as any of us. We loved having him in that Saturday morning group! We are grateful to both Al and Jane for opening up their home and their hearts to us with loving kindness, encouragement, wisdom and support in whatever troubles we were going through.
We love you Al! We will miss you! We do not say "Good-bye", but rather we say "We will see you later". Our loss, heaven's gain!

As his sister, and coming from a family of six, AL led the way with his example of integrity, genuine interest in others, and hard work. He graduated from college and from that time on, there were no questions to the rest of his siblings that college was the expectation. We all graduated from college
As a born entrepreneur, he guided me multiple times through my experience as a landlord. He was there for family celebrations and supported me through the death of my son, carrying the torch of encouraging others to sign up for organ donation. He was there!!
Being a social worker in dialysis (and a previous nurse), I loved helping him make the transition to dialysis treatments. He never gave up.
There is but one breathe between life and death and I felt honored to be with him as he took his last breathe on Earth as the angels carried him to Heaven.
I will forever love and miss him...
Jane, Stephanie, Darrell, Sabrina, and Lauren, I am so sorry he will no longer be there physically for you, but his influence will be ongoing in your lives forever. My love and prayers are for you as you continue to celebrate his life. You were so blessed to experience his daily positive influence in your lives.

I consider myself to be very fortunate to have known Al Butler. He truly is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, so cheerful and so generous. I particularly enjoyed our OLLI biking outings with Al and Jane. He has been a ray of sunshine and will be missed.

Al was the first born of six children. His family was blessed to have had Al as a role model. Even as a 'kid' he demonstrated maturity beyond his years in decision making, judgment and initiative.
Once he reached his high school years his entrepreneurial aptitude became evident. He established three different businesses often hiring employees to work for him. Of course he was the 'CEO'. He knew how to lead and he knew how to delegate. In high school he was responsible for establishing the first Student Government and of course became its president.
As Al moved into adult life and experienced the workplace, he realized working for others wasn't his 'thing' and established his own businesses for the rest of his life.
His love and devotion to his wife and his daughter and her family was most evident. He was blessed with two beautiful grandaughters and sharing their accomplishments was a pure delight for him.
As his sister, I will miss his ever present kind, encouraging, supportive and caring qualities. Oh and I forgot his quirky stories and jokes.
Rest in Peace Brother - Roberta

We do offer our sympathy and condolences to Al's family and friends and yet we remember to celebrate the numerous memories for which we had the distinct pleasure of enjoying many events with Al beginning with the marriage of our son Darrell and Al & Jane's daughter Stephanie. From then on it was one celebration after the next - way too numerous to mention - except to say that they were indeed all happy memories and fun filled joyful celebrations. We are grateful and blessed to have known Al. He showed the way to serenity with his acceptance and courage in death. His spirit will definitely be remember way down the road. Al had that special inquisitive zest for life and discipline that was outstanding. He had the knowledge, skill and desire to succeed in numerous endeavors. He was a great teacher, friend and Christian. Of course, his greatest joy was watching those two precious grand daughters: Lauren and Sabrina grow into being outstanding and accomplished children.

To Jane and family,
I was truly sad to learn of Al's passing from Lynn. And I apologize for not keeping in touch these past few years. I only knew you both through biking and that was a terrific way to know you! How fun! What snack would Al be passing out? Nuts or dark chocolate??? Such a fun guy...never shut up but I loved his chatter. You two were a wonderful couple and how you took such great care of Al these past years will forever be ingrained in my soul. I send my love and sympathy. We all lost a most giving and special man. I am unable to attend his services because of medical reasons. I truly wish I could be there! Dixie Steward of Philipsburg

Al was such a unique and wonderful man. He always brought a smile to our faces when we heard "Al Butler speaking". He always answered the phone that way. Yes, we still have one of his Million Dollar bucks received many years ago! Al was a caring and kind friend to those lucky enough to know him. Our hearts and thoughts go out to his family and to Jane his "lovely wife" which is what he always said when he mentioned her. Rest in peace Al and thanks for being you.

Heaven is a happier place as they welcome Al. I am sure that pretty soon he will be doing the welcoming of anyone new arriving. I was the long time member of the church and Al found a way to make me feel that he was welcoming me in and helping me to feel part of the group. I will fondly remember the sparkle in his eyes and the smile on his face, ready to greet anyone with a funny story and a welcoming heart.

Uncle Al was always so curious about all of our lives and asked many questions to make sure he understood everything. He gave lots of great advice. He always knew how to make you laugh. The love that him and Aunt Jane had for each other was phenomenal. That love passed into Stef and her whole family. He was so proud of all of his family. He will be greatly missed. Thank you for all the great memories. I will forever remember your funny faces when you would slap your bald head and talk in that funny voice. Love you Uncle Al.
