We were so distressed to learn of Tom’s passing. He was a very dear friend of my husband, George and me. We played in a Bluegrass band together when Tom was in UVA Medical School, called, The Observatory Mountain Boys and Girl. Others playing and singing were Medical students, Residents, a Virginia State Trooper, a maître de, a lawyer (George) and me, an RN.
We had so much fun. We were invited to play for the Virginia Psychiatric Association Convention at The Homestead in Hot Springs, VA. When we were greeted at the curbside, they saw the instruments and said, “All performers must enter through the back door.” We laughingly drove around to the back service doors. We were allowed in the dining room.
Tom was an usher in our wedding in 1963.
