Obituary of Keith Allen Dowdy
On the afternoon of Thursday February 18, 2021, Keith Allen Dowdy, beloved son, brother, brother-in-law and friend passed away and found final peace with Jesus Christ.
Keith was born on August 9, 1958 in Pittsburgh, PA to Emma Jean (Dowdy) Tate and Frank Hopkins— both deceased. He attended Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh. After graduation, he attended Wilberforce University before spending a brief time in the Air Force, but later found his calling at the Bidwell Training Center where he obtained training in the culinary arts.
Upon leaving Bidwell, Keith would work in kitchens at notable restaurants throughout the city of Pittsburgh. He finally found tenure at two establishments—Gold Rush Restaurant in McKeesport and Dowe's on 9th, Downtown Pittsburgh.
Keith had a passion for cooking and for making people happy. He would become friends with those who would work with him, and he would often come out from the kitchen to engage with his customers; smiling, sharing stores or talking current events, and ensuring that their eating experience was pleasurable.
After suffering a brain aneurysm and stroke in 2006, from which he miraculously survived, Keith spent his remaining years as a resident of Centre Crest Nursing facility in Bellefonte, Pa, close to his sister's home. In spite of his physical limitations and impairment, Keith was ALWAYS pleasant. When asked how he was doing, the response was always – "I'm doing great, how are you doing?"
Keith was never married and had no children. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank, his mother, Jean and his stepbrother, Fred Hopkins. He is survived by his brother, Rafeeq Salahuddin, his sister Terri Parker, his brother-in-law Curtis Parker, his niece Morgan Parker, as well as several cousins.
Because of restrictions in place due to COVID-19 there will be no funeral services held. Instead, the family is preparing a remembrance booklet. If you have fond memories or remembrances of Keith that you would like to share, please send them to Terri Parker, via email to mstlynn8@gmail.com, or in writing to 1378 Penfield Road, State College, PA 16801.
Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College. Online condolences and signing of the guest book may be entered at www.kochfuneralhome.com or visit us on Facebook.
