Obituary of Meredith Robinson

Meredith J. Robinson passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in her home after an extended illness. She was 93 years old. Born January 27, 1918 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Eva DeArment Giles and Clare M. Giles. In September of 1941, Meredith married Carl Edward Robinson who preceded her in death on October 28, 2001. They celebrated 60 years of marriage. Meredith is survived by her only son, Edward Robinson and his wife Diane Palmer Robinson of Boalsburg. She had two grandchildren, Lauren Burke and her husband Brian of Hagerstown, MD and Paul Robinson and his wife Stephany of Victoria, Texas; and two great-grandchildren Sara and Colby Burke. She is also survived by her beloved companion and faithful friend, Katey, her Siamese cat. Meredith graduated from Altoona High School in the class of 1936 and attended the Altoona Business School. Her first position after graduation was secretary in the office of the Blair County Children's Aid Society. During this period a new Junior Federated Women's Club was formed and Meredith was elected President for the first two years. She then moved to a position as Assistant to the Personnel Director of the William F. Gable Department Store. After World War II Meredith and Carl moved to Boalsburg and she took a job as the Personnel Representative for a new company just started by three Engineers from Penn State-Haller, Raymond and Brown (HRB) where she worked for many years. After leaving HRB she then worked as the Assistant Manager and Personnel Director for Penn Traffic in the Nittany Mall until she retired. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg and the Boalsburg Garden Club (25 years). Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Korn officiating. Burial will be in Boalsburg Cemetery.
