Patricia "Pat" Watters Hammarstrom, 80, of State College, died Monday, June 21, at Mount Nittany Medical Center under the care of dedicated, compassionate professionals.
Born May 22, 1941, in Spangler (Northern Cambria), she was the daughter of the late Paul Joseph and Elizabeth Costello Watters. On July 11, 1964, she married Lee McCormick Hammarstrom, who was her partner in life and survives at home with their cat, Millie.
In addition to her husband, Pat is survived by two daughters, Carol Veltri Bland and her husband Lance of State College, and Katherine (Katie) Elizabeth Duffy (Kevin deceased) of Chevy Chase, MD; one sister, Elizabeth Ann (Betty Ann) Kerr (Harry deceased) of Indiana; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Rose Veltri, Grace Margaret Veltri, Adam Christopher Bland, and Megan Lindsay Bland.
Pat graduated from Barnesboro High School in 1959. She earned her bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1963 and practiced as a pharmacist early in her career at Miner's hospital, Barnesboro, transitioning to multiple positions in Montgomery County, Maryland where Pat and Lee resided for 38 years. Upon retirement, they moved to State College.
Pat enjoyed spending time with her family and friends hosting many meals with the extended family, loved to sew and managed rental properties. Pat, Lee, Betty Ann and Harry travelled extensively. Pat was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her every day.
