Mrs. Gold was a huge positive influence in my life. I learned so much from her, more than just playing the flute. She was kind but firm and encouraged and inspired me so much. What an amazing woman!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed hearing her brilliant playing with the quartet, at our Bellefonte community concerts. My sincere condolences to her husband and family and friends that were close to her.

Dear Gold and Toulson family members: our beloved Diane helped to transform the music world in central PA, traveling over much of the state to perform as principal flutist in various orchestras and smaller groups, teaching, and sharing her love of the flute and music in general.
She never shied from driving long distances over icy roads in winter to perform and teach. As she said to me on several occasions, coming from Rochester meant she could drive anywhere in PA with no problem.
Seven years ago I introduced myself to her as a neighbor while she was dog walking. I asked if one of her students might be willing to give me flute lessons, but she said that she herself would take me on as a returning adult student. These seven years have been transformative for me; playing flute duets with her, especially Baroque music, has brought joy to my life. Diane encouraged me to reach further than I ever thought I could. In my last lesson with her, just two months ago, she said, "Be more musical." I'll try to do that, for Diane, my teacher, friend and neighbor, in my flute playing and in my life.
We have all been blessed to have had Diane's influence and love in our world.

I am so grateful to have known and worked with Diane. She was a consummate musician and a wonderful friend. Diane played in countless pit orchestras for both FUSE Productions and Singing Onstage and we always had a wonderful time! My wife Heidi was one of Diane's flute students in the early 1980s. And Diane was the organist for our church, First Church of Christ, Scientist.
I will miss her wonderful sense of humor and brilliant playing.
