Obituary of Ann Stuck Bartges
Ann Stuck Bartges, 90, of State College, PA passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2021.
Ann, born March 23, 1931, was the daughter of the late James Lando Stuck and the late Hazel Bloom Stuck, all of whom were members of the Presbyterian Church.
Ann graduated from Clearfield High School in 1949 where she played the flute and piccolo and was the drum major of the marching band during her senior year. After high school, she attended The Pennsylvania State University majoring in music education and minoring in English and was a sister of the Delta Gamma sorority. She liked to share her great memories of her days at Penn State.
When she graduated from Penn State, she accepted a teaching position at the Lock Haven Junior High School. During those years, she met and married the late Dr. Elwood E. Bartges, the love of her life.
After they married on July 24, 1965, they moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where she taught music in the Camden School District while Dr. Bartges attended the University of Pennsylvania to obtain his degree in orthodontics.
When Dr. Bartges received his orthodontics degree, they decided to move to and start a practice in State College, PA. They were welcomed to the community and made many lifelong friends.
Aside from assisting with the back-office work necessary for the practice, she was an avid knitter, loved to read, enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge club and socializing with her friends. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling and attending a variety of circuses with long-time family friend, Dr. Donald Curtis.
She is survived by her son, James Edwin Bartges and her daughter-in-law, Liisa (Piper) Bartges; sisters-in-law, Donna (John) Thompson and Janet Wible along many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Elwood E. Bartges; brother-in-law, Dr. Dean S. Bartges and his wife Patricia (Fleming); sister-in-law, Connie Stover; and brother-in-law, Richard Wible.
Jim and Liisa would like to thank Adult Transitional Care for their assistance allowing Ann to be able to continue her independent lifestyle at home.
Visitation will be held from 11 am – 1 pm on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton Street, State College, PA.; funeral services will immediately follow with the Reverend Dean Lindsey of the State College Presbyterian Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Allegheny Spay and Neuter Clinic, Woodland, PA and/or One Dog At A Time (ODAAT) Pet Rescue, Lewistown, PA.
Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College. Online condolences and signing of the guest book may be entered at www.kochfuneralhome.com.
