Steve hired me June 30. 1983, but he is most lovingly remembered as Smoke to his employees. He was the greatest boss and store manager, so many of us had the greatest respect for him he will be sadly missed.

I worked with Steve at the BJC during home football games at the Founders Entrance. We were both people watchers and I was amazed at the number of people he knew. We shared a few stories and had quit a few laughs as we observed the tailgaters. He liked to take little breaks, puff on him pipe and tell me about things that happened at his store. I for one missed him the last couple years when He no longer was working. Jeff kept me updated on what he was up to, which I really appreciated. He will be missed. Yours Truly, Mark Rhine

I was sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. I worked for him during high school and college. He was the best boss I ever had. Before moving to Rebersburg I occasionally saw him while shopping and we would chat as old friends. He was a great man.
