Obituary of Susan C. Grow
Susan C. Grow, 76, of Bellefonte, died Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born May 20, 1945, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Charles and LuEmma Mentzer Coder. On September 17, 1966 she married Tommy L. Grow, who survives.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by two children, Shannon L. Ritter and her husband Daniel of Harrisburg, and Erin G. Stovall and her husband Adrian of Mentor, OH; one sister, Jane Lux and her husband Rick of Mechanicsville, VA; six grandchildren, Nathan Zavacky, Hannah Owens and her husband David, Kayla, Noah and Emma Stovall, and Pepper Ritter; and one great-granddaughter, Harper Owens.
Susan graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1963. From there, she attended Harrisburg Polyclinic School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse in 1966. After graduating from nursing school, she worked for a short time at a hospital in Richmond, Virginia before moving back home to Centre County and working as a registered nurse at what was then Centre Community Hospital at Willowbank. Susan continued her career at Centre Community Hospital (now Mount Nittany Medical Center) where she also worked for many years as an application specialist in Information Services to help with the transition from paper to electronic medical records. In her career, Susan cared for thousands of patients and families, helped teach student nurses, and served as a shining example of compassion for countless co-workers, friends, and family members.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Public visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, July 30, 2021 at the funeral home with Celebrant Jackie Naginey Hook officiating.
Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Mount Nittany Health Foundation, Palliative Care Fund, In memory of Susan C. Grow.
