Obituary of Thomas E. McHenry
Thom McHenry of State College died unexpectedly at his home on July 31, 2021.
Thom, son of Kenneth and Charlotte (Couser) McHenry, was born in Philipsburg, PA, and reared in Houtzdale. He earned a BS at Lock Haven University and a MA at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He spent four years as an educator in the Clearfield School District followed by thirty-six years in the Moshannon Valley School District.
Thom was a former member of the Houtzdale Rotary Club and of the State College Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the Jaffa Shrine Temple. He also volunteered at Special Olympics and served as a volunteer at Mount Nittany Medical Center for eighteen years.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by two sisters—Mary Jane Helsel (Ray) of Edwardsville, IL and Marcia Ann Saiers (Tom) of State College, PA—a brother, James (Paula) of Edinboro, PA and five nieces and two nephews as well as eleven great nieces and nephews.
Thom was a man of diverse pleasures. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and neighbors, hosting dinner guests, having coffee and conversation at the after-church coffee hour, listening to music, and watching TV documentaries.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church officiated by The Rev. Jeff Packard. Refreshments in Room 305. Internment will be at the Brisbin Cemetery at 2 p.m.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, August 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton Street, State College, PA.
