Obituary of Marie H. Whitacre

Marie Hess Whitacre, 94, of Belleville, PA, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the Valley View Retirement Community. Born October 26, 1926 on the Hess Farm in Shingletown, PA, Marie was the daughter of Edgar Eugene and Mary Katherine (Thompson) Hess, and wife of the late Ben L. Whitacre. She is survived by son, Lewis Jay Whitacre and his wife, Marie, of Matthews, NC. A 1944 graduate of the Harris Township High School, Marie was a homemaker and mother who loved her family, sisters Virginia Hess Brobst and Elizabeth Hess Barto, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, and fishing and boating with her husband. Marie and Ben retired to Daytona Beach, FL for about twenty years before returning to Big Valley in Mifflin County.
