Obituary of Mary Cherney Schmidt
Mary Cherney Schmidt, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in State College on Saturday, October 9, 2021 with the support of her husband, Hospice, and Home Instead.
Born November 3, 1931, in Forest City, PA, she was the daughter of Rudolph and Liguori Fleming Cherney. She married Frank W Schmidt on June 26, 1954, who survives at home. She is survived by four children, Gregory Schmidt, David Schmidt, Catherine Schmidt Snyder, and Mark Schmidt, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mary was a graduate of Forest City High School and Pennsylvania State University. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in State College, and a loyal supporter of the Catholic Campus Ministry at Penn State and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, State College.
In addition to raising their family, she assisted her husband throughout his professional activities. With her loving husband, Mary enjoyed traveling the world, being active outdoors, and supporting her church and community through volunteer activities.
Visitation will be held on October 15, 2021, at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to Our Lady of Victory Catholic School.
